Vacancy - High School Biology Teacher

The Koç High School Biology Department provides Life Science and
Biology courses for all grades from 9th to 12th. The syllabuses in the
9th and 10th grades generally deal with bcsic biochemistry and cell
biology, human organ systems and ecology. In these topics cre
embedded the concepts of the scientific method and critical
thinkirg. In the 11th and 12th grades there are two parallel courses
in biology: ‘Regular Biology' (according to the Turkish ministry of
educction curriculum) and IB Biology. We clso offer the IB
Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS) course. Students opt to
study one of these, or none, if they decide not to continue scence
in iitt' grade. It should be stressed that in each of these different
courses there is a commitment to the same scientific and analytical
skills. All courses are taught in English. Laboratories are well
equipped and the campus affords opportunities for Heldwork
investigations. A typical eaching load is between 20 - 24 forty-
minute periods per week. The present department comprises six
teachers of four nationaities. Within it there is a strong sense of
group responsibility and teamwork. Resources and ideas are shared
freely.
Applications are invited from interested biology teachers. Although
there is some flexibility wthin the department the applicant saould
expect to teach some 9th or iOth grade classes and it is likely that
there will be the opportunity to teach IB Biology and/ or ESS.
Applications from teachers with experience in ecology or the
teaching of ESS are particularly welcome. Enquiries should be
forwarded by email to the Head of the Biology Department, Gilbert
Evans; GilbertE@kocschcool.k12.tr
